Are NHS service users given choices?

A question and answer from a Midwife that has worked in the NHS for many years.

For every mother that uses our services everything is a choice? (True or false)

False. When you enter the NHS you sign up to the conveyor belt style of the care system. Your options are only what is presented to you. If you choose not to go ahead with a certain treatment you will be expected or kindly coerced into why it would be a good reason to do it. If you are luckier then your choice will be dismissed and overridden by overzealous obstetricians and submissive Midwives. You may meet the odd health care professional that really can support you but even their hands will be tied by the powers of the institute!
