Roomy In There
At an out of hours appointment because of some retained placenta tissue, after an extremely traumatic birth, I was examined with a speculum.
This was 4 weeks after an episiotomy. My husband and newborn were behind the curtain and my newborn was crying for me.
I started to get worked up and started breathing slowly to calm myself down, as she put the speculum in.
I winced and took a sharp breath in and the on call doctor snapped at me “it doesn’t hurt, it’s not even in yet”.
It did hurt, and continued to for around a year. She then loudly said “it’s quite roomy in there”. I was mortified. I’ll never forget it and it still makes me sad and angry.
